It's been a while since I have talked about this, but some time ago, probably in the last couple of months, I have started the strength training phase of my fitness regimen. I have modified the goal of my runs to guage the calories of each run rather than the time or distance. Right now, I am maintaining a 600 calorie cardio workout. It usually leads to roughly a four mile run. I don't mind so much as it is taking roughly 35 minutes these days to complete a 600 calorie run. The weight training isn't going too bad. I am sticking to the same exercises that I've always done and I am modeling the strength training after how I conducted the circuit training the last go-round. I cut the number of reps per set to 10 and started with weight that allowed me to maintain the best possible form throughout all three sets. I will say that I took a sabatical of almost a month in November and another 2 week hiatus during the holidays. The good news is I didn't gain a pound throughout the entire 6 weeks combined. What kind of pained me is that just when I was starting to see some actual physical progress, that's when the sabaticals would start. It's OK though. I think I'm going to stick with the strength training for a while as I want to bulk up a little more and then I'll worry about cutting up. I'm thinking seriously about using the P90X system. I know I was on a Crossfit kick for a little bit, but I really don't have the means to do what the routines called for. If I had the proper equipment, I would look seriously into doing Crossfit because it looks fun, but for all I would have to buy or build, it's too investment intensive for me. I might hold onto some of the cardio stuff like the tabata treadmill sprints and do them occasionally. I got home at such a time when the P90X infomercial came on, so I watched it. I believe that this program really works as I have talked to a couple of people who either have it ot have tried it. 90 days isn't a lot of time. I am hesitant to devote 90 days to just this program. I guess the jury will remain out on that idea as what I am doing now is working.
I have remained at 195 pounds or less for the past 2 months. This is the longest weight plateau to have occurred since I was 210 pounds. I'll bet if I could get back into some swimming, I would lose weight again. I'd love to do that, but resources are sparse for pools. I see the gains in muscle, but I stay at 195. I suppose this is a good thing. I don't mind NOT being 200 pounds or heavier, but I think I'd like to see a more noticeable dissappearance of fat from my waist. I'd like to see me go down another pants size. Perhaps this P90X thing is the way to go. I will keep this in consideration in hopes that I finally come to a decision. Until then, I'll keep getting it in.
