Unfortunately, it's the SAME work I was at last week. I had a transformational weekend this past weekend which is more than likely due to the fact that my weekend was four days long. I literally forgot that I was employed. Of course, I had to work on Firday night, but at least I didn't have to go home early for any drama. Saturday was alright as we started to clean the house and quickly got involved in doing something else. We also ended up kid-free which was nice. So the missus and I had a quaint lunch at Red Robin and went out to go food shopping. This was the first time we had clipped coupons as we are trying to turn over a new leaf by:
1) Not buying shit we don't need/impulse buying.
2) Clipping coupons to save on the shit we DO need.
We clipped a significant amount of coupons, all for stuff we needed. We went through the store and picked up only 2 items that we had coupons for, paid and completely forgot to turn the coupons over. Well, it was a bold start. Maybe next time we'll actually remember to turn over the coupons. We brought the food home, put it away and vegged until it was time to get ready to go. Somehow, we ended up with the kids again and we all went out to our friends' house to meet up to go t a party. When I got there, I was handed a Washington Capitals jersey and a season ticket. I WAS GOING TO A HOCKEY GAME!!! The wife took the kids and my friend Justin and I went to to the game. What an experience. The Verizon Center was blazing with red lights and excited (and probably frunk) fans, ready for a game against the #1 team in the NHL at that time - The Boston Bruins. This was conflicting for me. Being a Boston native, I wanted the Bruins to win, but try standing up and cheering for a Boston goal wearing an Ovechkin jersey and see how quickly you get your ass kicked. I had a couple beers, some eats and a GREAT time!!! The game was over just before 9:30 so Justin and I took the metro back to Springfield where we were picked up by the missus and brought to enjoy the going away party for another friend of ours. He's going away to OCS and we don't think we'll ever see him again which is sad because he's a great guy. The party was small but comfortable and intimate. It didn't seem to last long enough...
We went on Sunday to pick up the shitheads from my in-laws and we were sitting there BSing when the oldest decided to ask if they could stay over for another night. Because they aren't the kind to say 'no', there they were for another night. Next stop - Olive Garden and to see Gran Torino. Dinner was great, very filling. Gran Torino was AWESOME!!! Very good movie. I can't WAIT until it comes out on DVD. Matter of fact, I may not have to because I work with plenty of people who do bootlegging so I may go that route. It was a great opportunity for a date and it ended up being a great date. I hope to see more of these...
Monday was spent without the missus as she had to go to work. One of our friends was celebrating her 19th birthday so we decided to do it up right. MY wife cooked up beer brats and sauerkraut and I baked a cake. When asked what kind of frosting I was going to put on the cake, I got an idea - my own from scratch! While the cake was baking, I put some music on and got to cleaning. By the time the missus was home from work, the carpets had been vaccuumed and the tile scrubbed by hand. The house hadn't looked this good since my birthday bash 2 months ago. The guest of honor showed up and we had a great dinner at the table. It took a while to work up an appetite for dessert, so the cake sat for quite a while. For whatever reason, we busted out my poker kit, complete with ceramic chips and started to teach these youngins how to play poker Texas style. Once they got the hang of it, we played a few hands and decided to play blackjack. Once everyone got the hang of the rules, we played for near an hour. The more we played, the drunker we got. It was a birthday done in style. I was pleased as I really think the guest of honor and her boyfriend had a good time. That's all that mattered to me.
Tuesday was a bit bland. MY wife had to work again and the onbly obligation I had was to help our OCS friend load his trailer. It was a cold experience but we got a lot done. By the time I had left, all there was to do was to sweep out the garage which he took care of. Ended going home to a venison taco dinner. It was good to sit at the table and eat with no distractions and no TV on. I am told I will be doing this on the regular here shortly, but I still have no idea when...
Which leaves me here for now. I'm nowhere near as volitile as my last post, which is good. That doesn't change the fact that I am ready to move on. I'm tired of the attitudes of the patients. If someone had to design a banner for this place, it would say in big, bold letters "What can you do for me next?" There is absolutely no gratitude from any of these patients; they just roam the floor demanding this and that. I know for a fact that most of the vets here are the kind that signed up to be in the army or air force to sit in an office and not do anything for the rest of their lives because the military is a guaranteed paycheck. Now that they're out, they get a VA check which isn't nearly as big as a military paycheck, but the mentality is still the same. If you're going to do anything at all to get what you want, demand it, otherwise just sit back and expect everything to be handed to you. It's absolutely sickening to me to watch. I'm a vet and I know it's the kind of people that come here to abuse the services and facilities that are the reason why I have to wait over a month for an appointment for anything I may need. WEll, regardless of how I feel about them, they all exist so I might as well get used to it. I have to believe that the time for me to start this new journey is coming soon.
